Coney Island has been New York's beach and amusement park area for immigrants from around the world since the late 1800s. With Luna Park, Dreamland and Steeplechase Park, visitors have found an escape from the city and a place to gather with family and friends. I visited Coney Island often in the late 1980s and photographed the people and events of Brooklyn's unique escape.
